Wall of Shame
IN PROGRESS - Unearthing more soon.
We believe there are absolutely no excuses for skin care companies to use toxic ingredients such as parabens, silicones, mineral oils, PEGS, Artificial fragrances or dyes, chemical SPFS or petrochemicals. The main reasons skin care companies choose to use these types of ingredients are because they are cheaper, easier and more reliable to manufacture with.
We don’t believe in taking the easy approach when people’s health is at stake. We care about people, the earth and animals so we will only ever create quality and potent skin changing formulations without harmful toxic ingredients. Here is a list of ingredients you will never find in Raw Earth products.
Polyethylene glycol (pegs)
PEGs are a classification of ethylene glycol polymers that function as humectants (moisturizers), solvents (congeals ingredients to form a solution) and stabilizers (for uniformity). They help balance pH levels in products, moisturize, thicken products and encourage skin penetration.
PEGs are often contaminated with pollutants including ethylene oxide, dioxane, polycyclic aromatic compounds and heavy metals including arsenic, cadmium, lead, nickel, cobalt and iron. This not only damages skin, it counteracts the skins defence mechanisms against antimicrobials. By increasing skin permeability and allowing pollutants to enter the body through the skin’s surface, we are susceptible to a variety of issues that arise from chemical contamination.
Phenoxyethanol is a synthetic preservative.
In 2008, the NIRS (National Institute for Research and Security) published a toxicological study about phenoxyethanol. It indicates that this substance is easily absorbed by the skin and metabolized to phenoxyacetic acid, which can lead to neurotoxic effects and neurological disorders.
